A four-storey building collapsed on Wednesday night at 11.10 pm in Malwani area of ​​Malad West, Mumbai. Nine people died in the building collapse while eight others were seriously injured who have been admitted to BDBA Nagar General Hospital. Many people, including some children, were inside the building when the building collapsed.

The fire brigade reached the spot immediately after the incident. With the help of local police and people, 15 people trapped under the rubble were rescued. Rescue work is still going on for the stranded people.

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) said that three nearby buildings are in "dangerous" condition and have been evacuated.

According to Maharashtra minister Aslam Shaikh, the building collapsed due to heavy rains in the city.

Mumbai received heavy rain throughout the day on Wednesday. This led to water-logging in some parts of the city and even the closure of roads and railway tracks.

The Indian Meteorological Department has issued an 'Orange Alert' for various districts including Mumbai for the next four days.
