A horrific road accident in the Dhar district of Madhya Pradesh has resulted in the tragic death of 12 laborers, while more than 25 others sustained injuries. The incident occurred near the Reliance Petrol Pump in Chikaliya, under the jurisdiction of the Tirla police station, at approximately 8:30 PM on Wednesday night. A pickup vehicle carrying laborers lost control, crossed over to the opposite side of the road, and collided head-on with an oncoming high-speed Scorpio. Following the accident, chaos ensued at the District Bhoj Hospital, where the injured are currently undergoing treatment. The deceased include men, women, and two minor children.
Sequence of the Tragic Collision
According to reports, the pickup vehicle was carrying approximately 40 to 45 laborers, which was Notably beyond its capacity. The vehicle was traveling at a high speed when it suddenly went out of control and flipped onto the other side of the road. At that precise moment, it crashed into a fast-moving Scorpio coming from the opposite direction, while the impact was so severe that the pickup was completely mangled, and the laborers on board were thrown onto the road. Local residents and petrol pump employees rushed to the spot after hearing the screams in the dark to initiate rescue efforts.
Casualties and Emergency Medical Response
So far, 12 fatalities have been confirmed in this accident. Among the dead are laborers who were traveling with their families and children in search of work. Duty doctor Chhatrapal Singh stated that given the critical condition of several injured individuals, the death toll might rise further, while more than 25 injured laborers were rushed to the District Bhoj Hospital for treatment. Out of these, the condition of 13 laborers is reported to be extremely critical, and arrangements are being made to refer them to larger medical centers after providing primary care.
Police Investigation and Administrative Action
Upon receiving information about the accident, senior police officials and administrative authorities reached both the accident site and the hospital. Due to the sudden influx of a large number of patients, additional teams of doctors and paramedical staff were summoned to the hospital. The Tirla police have sealed the accident site and commenced a formal investigation into the matter. Scattered belongings, bloodstains, and the wreckage of the vehicles at the Chikaliya site bear witness to the intensity of the collision.
These laborers were moving from one place to another in search of their livelihood, but the Tirla bypass proved to be their final journey. The police are currently working to identify the deceased and establish contact with their family members.
