Seven people lost their lives in a devastating fire that broke out in a three-story residential building in the Tilak Nagar police station area of Indore, Madhya Pradesh. According to administrative officials, the incident occurred due to a short circuit linked to an electric vehicle being charged outside the premises. At the time of the incident, more than 10 people were inside the building, of which three were successfully rescued.
Origin of the Fire and Immediate Impact
Indore Collector Shivam Verma confirmed that the house belonged to a local businessman named Manoj. Preliminary investigations suggest that an electric car was plugged into a charging point outside the house. A short circuit occurred during the charging process, and the fire quickly escalated, engulfing the entire three-story structure within minutes. The rapid spread of the flames trapped the occupants inside, leaving them with minimal time to escape.
Rescue Operations and Casualties
Upon receiving the alert, the local police and fire department dispatched 8 to 10 fire tenders to the spot. Firefighters worked for several hours to bring the blaze under control and prevent it from spreading to adjacent buildings. Out of the 10 people trapped inside, rescue teams managed to save three individuals. Unfortunately, seven people were declared dead due to severe burn injuries and smoke inhalation. The rescued individuals have been shifted to a nearby hospital for medical treatment.
Eyewitness Accounts from the Scene
Eyewitnesses reported a scene of chaos as the fire intensified. They described hearing screams from within the building, but the thick smoke and intense heat made it impossible for neighbors to enter and assist. By the time the fire brigade arrived, the flames had reached the upper floors. Witnesses noted that the fire spread vertically through the building's structure, which contributed to the high number of casualties in a relatively short period.
Administrative Action and Forensic Investigation
The local administration has initiated a formal inquiry into the incident. A forensic team has been summoned to the site to analyze the electrical components and the vehicle charging setup to determine the exact cause of the short circuit. Police have registered a case and are recording statements from the survivors and the owner. Officials stated that the investigation will focus on whether safety protocols were followed during the installation of the EV charging point. The administration has assured support to the affected families.
