Cloudburst In Kishtwar: On August 14, 2025, nature's fury broke out in Kishtwar area of Jammu division when a cloud burst in Chashoti area at around 12:30 pm. This natural disaster, accompanied by a loud sound, created havoc in the entire area. 60 people lost their lives due to debris and floods, while more than 100 people were injured. This tragedy has put the people of Kishtwar in deep shock.PM Modi took stock of the situationPrime Minister Narendra Modi immediately spoke to Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha over the phone to take stock of the situation. The PM assured all possible help to the affected people. I informed him about the situation in Kishtwar and the steps being taken by the administration. My government and the people affected by the cloudburst are grateful for all the assistance provided by the central government."He further said, "I express my deepest condolences to the families who have lost their loved ones in this accident and pray for the speedy recovery of the injured. I want to assure the people of Kishtwar that the government is making every possible effort."Scene of devastation and rescue operationThe morning of August 14 was calm and peaceful in Kishtwar like any other day. But by afternoon this peace turned into devastation. The loud sound of a sudden cloudburst in Chashoti area put people in panic. Before people could understand anything, a flood of debris and water came flowing down from above. Many people were caught in the grip, houses collapsed, and roads were filled with debris. Videos of the accident have surfaced, which are heart-wrenching. Many people were buried under the debris, while others were seriously injured.The local administration immediately started rescue operations. The injured were rushed to the hospital, and relief teams are working day and night to rescue people trapped under the debris. NDRF and local police as well as voluntary organizations are also engaged in relief work.Relief work by the government and administrationThe Jammu and Kashmir government has intensified relief and rescue operations in the affected areas. Chief Minister Omar Abdullah himself monitored the situation and directed the officials to provide immediate assistance to the affected people. The central government has also assured all kinds of help. Relief camps have been set up, where food, water and medical facilities are being provided to the affected people.Time for solidarity for KishtwarThis tragedy is a big blow to the people of Kishtwar.
