New Delhi : On Monday, a six-hour 'Rail Roko' demonstration by the United Kisan Morcha over the Lakhimpur Kheri violence affected 150 places in the Northern Railway Division and around 293 trains were affected. A total of 150 goods trains were affected by 'Rail Roko', out of which 75 trains were carrying coal for power plants. Rail traffic remained disrupted in some blocks in Rajasthan and Haryana, with 18 trains cancelled, 10 partially canceled and one train diverted.

The official said that the trains which were affected by the demonstration on the Northern Railway Division include Chandigarh-Firozpur Express. From Ludhiana it was supposed to leave for its destination at 7 am but it got stuck there due to obstruction in Firozpur-Ludhiana section. The New Delhi-Amritsar Shatabdi Express was stopped near Shambu station as the protesters blocked railway tracks near Sahnewal and Rajpura.

CPRO of Northern Railway said, “So far, 150 places in Northern Railway Division have been affected by the protest and the operation of 60 trains has been disrupted. Around 25 passenger and short distance trains have been cancelled. In Rajasthan, farmers demonstrated on railway tracks and at the entrance of Jaipur Junction station in Hanumangarh district and raised slogans against the central and Uttar Pradesh governments.

An NWR spokesperson said that Bhiwani-Rewari, Sirsa-Rewari, Loharu-Hisar, Suratgarh-Bathinda, Sirsa-Bathinda, Hanumangarh-Bathinda, Rohtak-Bhiwani, Rewari-Sadulpur, Hisar-Bathinda, Hanumangarh-Sadulpur and Sriganganagar-Rewari Rail traffic on the blocks remained disrupted due to the demonstration. He informed that Firozpur-Hanumangarh Special Train, Ludhiana-Hisar Special Train, Bathinda-Sriganganagar Special Train, Bathinda-Lalgarh Special Train, Phulera-Rewari Special Train, Rewari-Jodhpur Special Train, Ratangarh-Churu Special Train and Churu-Bikaner Special Train Including 18 trains were canceled on Monday. 10 trains were partially canceled due to the demonstration.

NWR spokesperson said that the route of Ahmedabad-Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra special train has also been diverted. He said that the train that left Ahmedabad on Saturday will go to Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra via a different route via Rewari-Delhi-Pathankot. In a statement, the Sanyukt Kisan Morcha (SKM), an organization of farmers' unions, which is leading the agitation against the three agricultural laws of the Centre, had said in a statement, "The demonstrations will be intensified till justice is done in the Lakhimpur Kheri case." '

The SKM had informed that train traffic would be stopped from 10 am to 4 pm on Monday during the 'Rail Roko' protest demanding the dismissal and arrest of Union Minister Ajay Mishra in connection with the Lakhimpur Kheri violence. Four of the eight people killed in the October 3 violence at Lakhimpur Kheri were farmers who were allegedly crushed by a vehicle carrying BJP workers.
