Jammu and Kashmir: The country had not even recovered from the landslide crisis in Joshimath in Uttarakhand that such frightening news is coming out from another state of the country. Joshimath-like cracks are being seen in some areas of Doda district of Jammu and Kashmir, which is called the crown of the country and the heaven of the earth. 19 families have been shifted to safer places after cracks appeared in their houses in Nai Basti village of Doda district. In Nai Basti village of Thathri area of Doda district, cracks started appearing in several houses due to land subsidence, officials said. The situation was further aggravated by landslides caused by the recent rains.

Administration shifted 19 families

Doda SSP Abdul Qayoom said, so far 19 families have been shifted to safer places. Landslides occurred due to the loosening of rocks. Qayoom said a team of geologists and engineers has inspected the site. Qayyum said that according to experts who have studied the rocks at the site, the ground there cannot bear the weight of the buildings. He said that both new and old structures have been built in the area.

The situation is not as worrying as Joshimath - Administration

Abdul Farooq, who is among those whose houses have developed cracks, appealed to the administration to shift the affected people to a safer place. Some houses have been completely damaged due to the landslide, Farooq said. A mosque has also come under its influence. The officials, however, refused to compare Doda with Joshimath in Uttarakhand, which posed a bigger challenge and forced a large number of people to relocate after their houses developed cracks. The two cannot be compared, Qayoom said. It is a very local matter in Doda.
