Amit Shah Slams Sonia Gandhi: Sin Committed At Congress Office Over Vande Mataram

Union Home Minister Amit Shah has launched a massive verbal offensive against the Congress party and its senior leader Sonia Gandhi over an alleged insult to the national song, Vande Mataram. Speaking at a public event in Chittorgarh, Rajasthan, the Home Minister stated that a grave sin has been committed at the Congress headquarters. He asserted that the people of India would never forgive Sonia Gandhi for what he described as an act of disrespect towards the national song. Shah emphasized that the Congress party has forgotten the significance of Vande Mataram in its pursuit of vote bank politics, which he claimed has led them to disregard national sentiments.

Allegations of Interrupting the National Song

During his address, Amit Shah detailed the incident that has sparked a political firestorm. He alleged that while Vande Mataram was being sung at the Congress party headquarters, Sonia Gandhi intervened and asked the Congress President, Mallikarjun Kharge, to stop the song. Shah remarked that the entire nation witnessed this act on television. He questioned how anyone could even dream of leaving the national song incomplete. The Home Minister expressed his dismay, stating that the Congress leadership should be ashamed of such actions, while he pointed out that after 80 years, the immortal song composed by Bankim Chandra Chattopadhyay is finally receiving its due respect, yet Sonia Gandhi appeared uncomfortable with it. Addressing her directly, Shah said that 140 crore people of India are watching her actions.

Demand for an Unconditional Apology

The Home Minister further demanded that the Congress party should apologize with folded hands to both Bankim Chandra Chattopadhyay and the citizens of the country. He stated that the mistake made by the party is one that the public will never overlook. Shah criticized the shamelessness of the party, noting that even as the song was being performed, the leadership chose to interrupt it. He reiterated that if there is any sense of shame left within the Congress leadership, they must seek forgiveness for this perceived insult to a national symbol.

Congress Defense and BJP Reactions

In response to the allegations, the Congress party clarified that Sonia Gandhi was merely asking for a chair for the party president, Mallikarjun Kharge, and not attempting to stop the song. However, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has continued its attack. BJP MP Sudhanshu Trivedi stated that in accordance with Prime Minister Narendra Modi's resolution and the sentiments of millions of Indians, this is the first Independence Day where Vande Mataram has been sung in its entirety, while adding to the criticism, BJP IT Cell head Amit Malviya posted on social media platform X, claiming that Sonia Gandhi became visibly upset after the initial lines of the song were sung and requested it to be stopped instead of playing it fully. Malviya also alleged that Rahul Gandhi gestured for the song to be ended prematurely.
