After coming out on bail from Sitapur Jail, Azam Khan first spoke about the allegations against him in a conversation with India Today. A team of ED officials is probing a money laundering case against Azam Khan belonging to Jauhar University. The documents pertain to Jauhar University, whose permanent vice-chancellor is SP MLA Azam Khan.

Azam Khan said that I was called mafia, Jauhar University is my crime. I was accused of stealing goats and chickens. In 20 days I became the biggest criminal. The biggest reason behind this was that I was on the election agenda.

On the question of Akhilesh Yadav not reaching the jail to meet him, Azam said, "I didn't get as many votes outside the jail as I got. Truth is the truth in a legal battle." Alleged, "Those coming to meet me in jail were banned by the district administration. I could not meet anyone. I didn't know anything about the outside world. I lived in a very small cell. Which the British used to keep prisoners before hanging.

I am not Hardik Patel

When asked about his future in SP, Khan said, "I am not Hardik Patel. There is no resentment with SP and Akhilesh Yadav. I will first fix my physical condition, then I will think in which direction I am going."
