Asian Games 2023: India created a record by giving its best performance so far in the 19th Asian Games being held in Hangzhou, China. Indian players performed record-breakingly in different sports and events of the Games and took the country beyond 100 medals for the first time. With success in its last event on Saturday, October 7, India won a total of 107 medals. While some veterans of the country won medals as expected, some new and unknown faces also brought success. But one such player disappointed, from whom there were high expectations – Bajrang Punia. This time the veteran wrestler failed in the Asian Games and in such a situation, former Indian Wrestling Federation chief Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh also did not miss the opportunity to target him.

Bajrang Punia won the gold medal in the 2018 Asian Games. This year also India expected him to repeat this success. However, this did not happen and the star Indian wrestler had to return empty handed from Hangzhou. Bajrang first lost in the semi-finals, due to which his hopes of winning gold were ended. Then he had a chance to win the bronze medal but here too he had to face a crushing defeat of 0-10 against the former world champion and thus he missed out on winning any medal.

Bajrang had opened the front

This year, Bajrang Punia, along with many top wrestlers including Vinesh Phogat and Sakshi Malik, opened a front against Brijbhushan Sharan Singh. Wrestlers staged a protest in Delhi for a long time this year, due to which their practice was also affected. Then after the strike ended, Bajrang and Vinesh were selected in the games without trials, on which there was a lot of controversy. Vinesh was out due to injury, but Bajrang participated in the games.

Brijbhushan reprimanded

Now questions were bound to be raised on him for missing the medal and Brijbhushan was far ahead in this matter. BJP MP Brijbhushan Sharan Singh said that every child knows why Punia's medal did not come. He further said that if the media and the whole world is talking about this then what more can Punia say than this. Raising the issue of trials, Singh said that if trials had been sent then the gold medal would have been assured. He said that India should have won the gold medal in the 65 kg category.
