Team India: Two of the great superstars of Indian cricket, Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, who have already said goodbye to international cricket from T20 and Test formats, now speculations about their retirement from ODI format have gained momentum. Amidst these reports, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has issued a big statement, making it clear that it does not want to rush into this matter.

BCCI's official statement

A senior BCCI official told news agency PTI on the condition of anonymity, "If Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli have any plans for retirement, they will definitely inform the top officials of the Board of Control for Cricket in India, as they did before the England Test tour." The official also added that the next big target of the Indian team is the T20 World Cup to be held in February 2026, for which preparations have already started. The board also has a special focus on the Asia Cup T20 tournament to be held in September 2025, where there is a plan to send a strong team.

Decision will not be taken in haste

The official further said, "The BCCI does not want to take any hasty decision in the case of players like Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli. The number of fans of both the players is in millions, and we will take any step only by respecting their sentiments." Insiders denied the news of retirement of these two players and clarified that no formal discussion has been held on this subject yet.

Upcoming schedule of Indian team

The Indian team has to play its next ODI series in October 2025, for which there is still enough time. After this, after the Australia tour in November 2025, India will play a three-match ODI series against South Africa on home soil. The BCCI says that attention is being paid to team selection and strategy for all these tournaments and series, but no final decision has been taken yet regarding the future of Rohit and Kohli.

Feelings of fans and contribution of players

Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli have given many historic victories to Indian cricket. Both not only made records with their captaincy and batting, but also made a place in the hearts of millions of fans. This stance of BCCI shows that the board values the contribution of these legends and will respect their future decisions.

At present, fans are waiting to see whether these two superstars will continue their journey in ODI cricket or will bid farewell to this last format of international cricket as well.
