West Bengal / BJP will win 50 of 60 seats, Mamata losing Nandigram: Amit Shah

New Delhi: Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Friday claimed that the BJP has won over 50 of the 60 seats in West Bengal which have gone to polls in first two phases of the Assembly elections and said that Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has lost from the Nandigram constituency.

Shah also asked the people of north Bengal – a region that has 54 Assembly constituencies – to not give a single seat to the TMC, and to support Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the holistic development of the region.

During a rally at Sitalkuchi in Cooch Behar district, Shah said, “It is clear from the first two phase of the elections that the BJP will win more than 50 seats out of the 60 constituencies. And Didi is losing the election from Nandigram. Later Didi’s advisor asked her ‘Didi! Where would you want to fight from?’ But Didi replied, ‘Let me fight from anywhere but not from north Bengal as the people of north Bengal are not going to vote for me’.”

He also promised that BJP will spend Rs 2,000 crore annually for the development of north Bengal and set up an AIIMS in Cooch Behar.

The Union minister also accused Banerjee of running the TMC government on a ‘3T’ model of ‘tolabaji’ (extortion), ‘tanashahi’ (dictatorship) and ‘tushtikaran’ (appeasement). “But Narendra Modi runs the government on the ‘3V’ model which is vikas (development), viswas (trust) and vyapar (business),” he said.

Shah said that a BJP government in Bengal would stop infiltration from Bangladesh.

The constituencies in Cooch Behar and Alipurduar districts will go to polls on April 10.
