New Delhi: Mi-17 helicopter of the Indian Air Force crashed in Coonoor area of ​​Nilgiris district of Tamil Nadu on Wednesday. Only Group Captain Varun Singh is the only survivor in the helicopter crash.

According to an official statement from the Indian Air Force (IAF), Group Captain Varun Singh is the only one among 14 people who survived the helicopter crash. After the helicopter crash, it caught fire and due to this the body of Group Captain Varun Singh was badly burnt. Now he is being treated at the Army Hospital in Wellington.

Was honored with Shaurya Chakra this year

Group Captain Varun Singh was awarded the Shaurya Chakra by President Ram Nath Kovind on this year's Independence Day. During a flight last year, Group Captain Varun Singh's Tejas fighter had a technical fault and he landed his fighter plane safely despite a mid-air emergency. For this courageous act, he was awarded the Shaurya Chakra.

Group Captain Varun Singh hails from Kanholi village in Rudrapur tehsil of Deoria district of Uttar Pradesh. Varun Singh is currently posted as Group Captain in the Indian Air Force and is the Directing Staff of Defense Services Staff College (DSSC) in Wellington, Tamil Nadu. Varun Singh's father Colonel KP Singh is also retired from the army. However, at present his family lives in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh.
