Earning from the dirty water of Ganga / Center plans to sell treated water, will start with supply to IOC

The central government has planned to earn from the dirty water drawn from the river Ganga. Soon the government will start selling treated sewage water. Indian Oil Corporation Ltd. (IOCL) will start selling it soon.

About 12 thousand lakh liters (MLD) of sewage water comes out from the banks of the Ganges every day. Ashok Kumar, Director General, Clean Ganga Mission (NMCG), says that with the start of supplying this water to IOC in a month, the sale of this treated water will start. Kumar told that we are starting the sale of treated water of Ganga from Mathura. About 20 MLD water will be given to IOCL. There is an IOC refinery. IOCL will be given its required water from Mathura STP. It will be launched in a month or so and for the first time in the country any oil refinery will use treated water.

Bathable water

He said that the sewage and sewage water removed from the Ganga is treated in Sewage Treatment Plants (STP). Thereafter it becomes suitable for selling to industries. According to Kumar, the treated water is of bathable level. It can be used by industries. The use of treated water in industries will reduce the use of clean and clean water from rivers.

Earlier, treated water was very less available for industries, as the number of STPs was very less. These were built many years ago, but some of these STPs did not even have electricity connection. That's why she couldn't walk. There was also no system of monitoring the quality of water coming to the STP. But now these STPs are operational, so we have planned to monetize them.

Now the meditation of 'Earth Ganga'

Director General of NMCG said that we are also talking to the Ministry of AYUSH that how medicinal plants can be grown from this water along the river banks as a natural farming. With this farmers will be able to cultivate medicinal plants on river banks for their livelihood. He said that the focus of NMCG is now on 'Arth Ganga'. It means connecting people with rivers and creating an economic relationship between the two. We have been working intensively for the last two months for Arth Ganga.

The Modi government has started the 'Namami Gange' mission in the year 2015. Its purpose is to integrate all the schemes of Ganga purification. A total of 347 projects have been approved under this program at a cost of Rs 30,255 crore.
