Who is Chandrashekhar Azad

Chandrashekhar Azad, a resident of village Ghadkoli, located near Chhutmalpur, has studied LLB from Dehradun. Bhim Army Bharat Ekta Mission was formed in the year 2015, of which he is the founder. After his release from jail, Chandrashekhar continued the mission and kept demanding action in cases against Dalits. Demonstrations were also held in protest against the incidents in Rajasthan and Haryana ranging from the case of Hathras ki daughter. Apart from this, there was an agitation to stop the removal of Sant Ravidas temple in Delhi.

Chandrashekhar Azad formed the Azad Samaj Party only a year ago. After this, during the by-elections held on various seats of UP, he also fielded his candidate from Bulandshahr seat. After the three-tier panchayat elections, now candidates are fielding in the assembly elections as well.

BJP's stronghold is Gorakhpur city assembly seat

The city assembly constituency is said to be a BJP stronghold. This seat is with the BJP for the last 33 years. In the 2017 assembly elections, there was an alliance of SP and Congress. Both the parties together made Rahul Rana Singh the joint candidate. It was thought that the election would be interesting and vigorous, but it did not happen. The results were shocking. The BJP candidate got 1,22,221 votes, while the SP-Congress candidate could get only 61,491 votes. Dr. RMD Agarwal of BJP got victory by margin of 60,730 votes. Not only this, there was a bigger victory in the 2017 assembly elections than in 2012. The margin of victory also increased.

Competition interesting with Chief Minister coming in the fray

BJP has nominated Chief Minister and Gorakshpeethadhishwar Yogi Adityanath from the city assembly constituency. This made the competition interesting. This seat is with the BJP since 1989. In the 2002 elections, Dr. RMD Agarwal won the election as a Hindu Mahasabha candidate, but later joined the BJP. Voting for this seat will be held on March 3. Earlier, the nomination process would start from February 4. SP, BSP and Congress have not yet opened their cards on this seat. The real assessment of the electoral battle can be done only after the candidates are exposed.
