The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Saturday confirmed that opening batsman Ruturaj Gaikwad has been ruled out of the Test series against South Africa. Gaikwad, who was recently seen in the India vs South Africa ODI series, was also a part of the two Test matches against South Africa. The Indian board has also announced the name of his replacement player. Gaikwad has been ruled out of the Test team due to a right finger injury. He suffered an injury in the second ODI of the series and was not a part of the third ODI as well. Notably, BCCI has named Abhimanyu Easwaran in the main squad as his replacement.

Giving this information on its social media, BCCI wrote that Ruturaj Gaikwad got injured on the finger of his right hand while fielding in the second ODI match against South Africa in Gkebarha. He was scanned and a BCCI medical team has advised him to take rest for the Test. He will report to the NCA for further rehab of his injury. BCCI further wrote that the Men's Selection Committee has named Abhimanyu Easwaran as his replacement.
