India-China Relation / China openly came in support of India, gave a befitting reply to Donald Trump

China has come out in open support of India over the 50% tariff imposed by the US on India. Chinese Ambassador to India Xu Feihong called the US a "bully" and said that silence encourages bullies. He said that China will stand firmly with India.

India-China Relation: The US recently announced a 50% tariff on India for buying Russian oil, which includes a 25% reciprocal tariff and 25% as a penalty for buying Russian oil. This tariff will come into effect from August 27, 2025. The US claims that India is helping Russia financially in the Ukraine war by buying Russian oil. This move has created tension in India-US trade relations.

China's open support to India

China has strongly raised its voice in favor of India in this matter. China's Ambassador to India Xu Feihong strongly condemned this policy of America and termed it a "bully" attitude. He said, "The US has imposed tariffs up to 50% on India and has threatened even higher tariffs. China strongly opposes this. Silence only encourages bullies. China will stand firmly with India." Feihong accused the US of taking advantage of free trade and now using tariffs as a bargaining tool. He stressed that there can be no compromise on India's sovereignty and independent foreign policy.

India-China cooperation: A new possibility

The Chinese ambassador also highlighted the immense potential of economic cooperation between India and China. He said that connecting the markets of the two countries can have a big impact on the global economy. Feihong said, "We will welcome more Indian goods in the Chinese market. India is strong in IT, software and biomedicine, while China is making rapid progress in electronics and renewable energy."

He invited Indian companies to invest in China and also expressed hope for a fair business environment in India for Chinese companies. This statement is a positive step towards strengthening economic relations between the two countries, which have been strained in recent years.

India's response and strategy

India has strongly opposed this tariff of the US, calling it "unfair" and "unfortunate". The Indian Foreign Ministry clarified that India is buying Russian oil to meet the energy needs of its 1.4 billion population, and this decision has been taken on the basis of national interests. India also said that many other countries are also buying oil from Russia, then targeting only India shows double standards.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has called for promoting “Make in India” and giving priority to local products, ignoring US pressure. In August 2025, India imported 2 million barrels of crude oil per day from Russia, which is more than 16 lakh barrels in July. This shows that India is firm on its energy policy despite US pressure.

Global impact and future

This move of America is not only affecting India-US relations, but it can also have an impact on global trade and energy market. China's support to India and the possibility of Russia-India-China (RIC) triangular cooperation has opened a new front against US policies.

Russia has also supported India and called the US tariffs illegal. Russian Deputy Trade Representative Evgeny Griva said India will continue to receive Russian oil at a 5% discount, which will strengthen India's energy security.
