Veer Savarkar's banner removed in Mangaluru

At the same time, a banner renaming Mangaluru's Suratkal square after Hindutva ideologue V D Savarkar has been removed. The workers of the Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI) had objected to this banner. The Suratkal unit of SDPI objected to the banner and brought it to the notice of the police. Corporation commissioner Akshay Sridhar had ordered to remove the banner, after which the banner was removed on Sunday evening.

Municipal Corporation had approved the proposal

The Municipal Corporation of Mangaluru city had earlier accepted a proposal to name the intersection after Savarkar on the request of Y Bharat Shetty, the Bharatiya Janata Party's (BJP) MLA from Mangaluru North. The municipal corporation is waiting for the government's nod to officially name it after Savarkar.
