Beijing. For the last one month, there is a curfew-like situation in Shanghai city of China. All services are closed and people are not allowed to step out of their homes. Now China is doing the same thing in the capital Beijing. During the last 24 hours in Beijing, only 53 new cases of Omicron have been reported but almost all services here have been stopped. Already the schools-colleges here were closed, now it has been extended for a week. Apart from this, many metro stations, restaurants and businesses were ordered to be closed. In this city with a population of about 2.1 crore, orders have been given for daily Kovid-19 test of people.

Significantly, due to the havoc of Omicron, the highly contagious form of Kovid-19, China's commercial capital Shanghai had come to a standstill for more than a month. 53 new cases of Kovid-19 were reported in Beijing during the last 24 hours, taking the total number of patients of the epidemic in the city to more than 500.

Most services closed in Beijing

On Wednesday, 40 subway stations (10 percent of total subways) and 158 bus routes remained closed in Beijing. Most of the suspended services and the stations affected by the ban are in Chaoyang district. All kindergartens, primary and secondary schools and secondary vocational schools in Beijing have suspended classes for another week, until May 11, official media reported. The Beijing administration said when students would return to schools would depend on the status of the Kovid-19 infection. Those who actually need to leave Beijing must present a Nucleic Acid Test Negative Certificate and a Green Health Code within 48 hours before boarding the plane or train.

Shanghai is closed for a month

Shanghai has been closed for more than a month. There has been a decline in the number of Kovid infected for the 13th consecutive day. Hong Kong-based South China Morning Post reported that the city reported 4,982 cases on Wednesday based on tests conducted in the past 24 hours, taking the total number of confirmed cases of infection so far to more than 5,80,000 . Although that number is only slightly over 500 in Beijing.
