Twitter data leak: The data of about 400 million users of the microblogging site Twitter has been stolen and put up for sale on the dark web. This is one of the major data leak cases in Twitter. The hacker has given a sample to prove the genuineness of the data. This includes the user's name, email, number of followers, and in some cases even a phone number. It also includes user data of the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting and Bollywood actor Salman Khan.

This week, Ireland's Data Protection Commission (DPC) announced an investigation into the data leak of over 54 million Twitter users at the end of last month. According to a media report, in the current case of data leak, the hacker has stolen the data on Twitter of some high profile people as well as the US Space Agency NASA and the World Health Organization (WHO). The hacker wrote in his post, "Twitter or Elon Musk, if you are reading this, you are already at risk of GDPR fines for data leakage of more than 54 million users. I think."

The hacker says that he is ready to deal through a middleman. He has offered to sell this data. Experts say that the reason for the leak of Twitter's data could be a shortcoming in the API. The scope of investigation by the US Federal Trade Commission (FTC) on Twitter's privacy and data security practices is expanding. Since Musk's takeover of the company, there have been fears that Twitter may fail to comply with a settlement reached with US regulators last year in which the company agreed to improve its privacy-related systems. Along with this, the company also had to pay $150 million.

FTC lawyers last month questioned two former Twitter executives about compliance with the rules. Twitter was accused of using private information such as phone numbers for advertising, despite telling users that the information would be used for security purposes.
