President Trump has taken a tough stand on the Russia-Ukraine war. In a meeting with the NATO chief in the Oval Office, Trump warned that if an agreement is not reached within 50 days, he will impose strict tariffs on Russia. Trump's envoy met Zelensky and discussed military assistance to Ukraine.

US-Russia Relations: The ongoing war between Russia and Ukraine is not stopping. In recent days, Russia has intensified attacks on many cities of Ukraine, especially the capital Kiev, with drones, cruise missiles and ballistic missiles. These attacks have put a heavy strain on Ukraine's air defense system, due to which Ukraine is facing difficulties in defense and retaliation.

Trump's threat

US President Donald Trump has given a stern warning to Russia. During a meeting in the 'Oval Office' with NATO Secretary General Mark Root, Trump announced that if no agreement was reached to end the war within 50 days, he would impose tough economic tariffs on Russia. Trump said, "I use trade for many things. But, this is a very good step to resolve wars." However, he did not clarify how these tariffs would be implemented.

Trump and Putin's relations

Trump has long mentioned his friendly relations with Russian President Vladimir Putin. Since his reelection in January 2025, Trump has repeatedly claimed that Russia is more willing to reach a peace deal than Ukraine. However, Trump has even called Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky a "dictator", accusing him of prolonging the war. Nevertheless, Trump has criticized Russia after Russia's recent attacks.

Trump's envoy and Zelensky meet

On Monday, Trump's special envoy, retired Lieutenant General Keith Kellogg, met with Zelensky in Kiev. The meeting discussed issues such as strengthening Ukrainian air defense, joint weapons production, and the purchase of American weapons in conjunction with European countries. Apart from this, the possibilities of imposing tough international sanctions on Russia were also discussed.

Zelensky's statement

Ukrainian President Zelensky said in his response to the 'Telegram', "We have hope from the leadership of the United States, as it is clear that Russia will not stop until its ambitions are stopped by force." Referring to Russia's continuous attacks, he said that Ukraine's air defense system is facing a lot of challenges in countering these attacks.

What next?

Tensions between Russia and Ukraine are at their peak, and the situation may get more complicated after Trump's threat. The eyes of the international community are now fixed on whether this pressure from Trump will succeed in bringing Russia to the ceasefire table, or it will prolong the war. American and European support for Ukraine can play an important role in the outcome of this war.
