The process is governed by the Presidential and Vice Presidential Elections Act, 1952 and the Presidential and Vice Presidential Elections Rules, 1974 framed under it. Preparations for the election

Preparation of the Electoral College: The Vice President is elected by an Electoral College consisting of elected and nominated members of the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha. The Commission is busy finalizing the list of this college.

Appointment of Returning Officer and Assistant Returning Officer: Responsible officers are being selected and appointed to conduct the election process in a transparent and systematic manner.

Creation and dissemination of background material: The Commission has started the task of compiling and disseminating information related to previous Vice Presidential elections, so that all stakeholders can have the necessary information available.

Jagdeep Dhankhar's resignation and political stir

Jagdeep Dhankhar had resigned from the post of Vice President citing health reasons, which has been accepted by President Draupadi Murmu.
