Election Commission: The Election Commission of India (ECI) has started the election process for the post of Vice President of the country. The Commission has issued a press note in this regard, mentioning the preparations and process of the Vice Presidential election. The move comes after the gazette notification issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs on July 22, 2025, confirming the resignation of Jagdeep Dhankhar from the post of Vice President.Constitutional responsibility and processUnder Article 324 of the Constitution of India, the Election Commission is empowered to conduct elections for the post of Vice President. The process is governed by the Presidential and Vice Presidential Elections Act, 1952 and the Presidential and Vice Presidential Elections Rules, 1974 framed under it.
