Tripura Assembly Election: Assembly elections are to be held in Tripura next year. But before that, political difficulties are increasing for the NDA. 5 MLAs have left the party and the alliance. For this, the former Chief Minister of Tripura Manik Sarkar has taken a jibe at the ruling party. He said that the BJP has failed to keep those parties united, which brought down the Left Front government in the state in 2018.

Addressing an event of 'Students Federation of India' in Agartala, he said that the situation has changed in the northeastern state and three BJP MLAs have left the party and joined different parties, while two IPFT MLAs Tipra Motha have joined. The former Chief Minister said that three defectors of NDA have publicly stated that they are very unhappy with the working style of BJP. This is a big setback for the ruling party in view of the upcoming elections, he said.

IPFT MLA had resigned

On Friday, IPFT MLA Dhananjay Tripura resigned from the membership of the Legislative Assembly citing personal reasons. The Indigenous People's Front of Tripura (IPFT) is an ally of the NDA in Tripura. Assembly Speaker Ratan Chakraborty had said that Tipra Motha party chief Pradyut Kishore came with Manikya Debbarma, Dhananjay met him and submitted his resignation letter citing personal reasons. Chakraborty had said, since he has resigned under law and procedure, I have accepted it. He was an MLA from Raima Valley seat of Tripura Dhalai district. The ruling NDA has a clear majority in the 60-member assembly. BJP has 35 MLAs in the alliance while IPFT has 6 MLAs.

BJP made Mahendra Singh election in-charge

BJP is gearing up for the elections. The party on Sunday appointed former Uttar Pradesh minister Mahendra Singh as its election in-charge for Tripura. Singh has been the national secretary of the BJP and was also in charge of party affairs in Assam. He is a member of the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Council. He was a minister in the first term of the Yogi government, but this year after Yogi became the Chief Minister again, he was not made a minister.
