There has been a lot of discussion about eSim in recent times. Many smartphone companies are also making their phones E-Sim compatible. Recently, Airtel CEO Gopal Vittal also said a big thing about eSim. He had said that eSIM is much more secure than regular SIM card. Not only this, he also told that a mail has also been sent to Airtel customers in this regard and the benefits of Esim have been explained. Gopal Vittal has asked his customers to use eSim instead of physical SIM card.

After this statement of Gopal Vittal, now many questions are being raised among the people regarding e-SIM. Let us tell you how different an eSim card is compared to a physical or regular SIM card and how safe it is.

What is e-Sim?

E-Sim Card is called Digital SIM Card or Virtual SIM Card. Its full form is Embedded Subscriber Identity Module. The eSim card does not need to be inserted like a regular physical SIM, rather it is embedded on the device itself. It is embedded over the air in the smartphone by the telecom company.

In esim card you get all the facilities which you get in a normal physical SIM card. However, it is much safer than a physical SIM card. There is no fear of it being stolen. If your phone is lost or stolen, it can be easily tracked because of ESM activation. There is also less risk of physical damage to the e-SIM.

How is E-Sim activated?

If you use Jio SIM and you want to convert your SIM to e-SIM then you have to send SMS GETESIM along with EID number and IMEI to 199. Now you will get a 19 digit number. In the next step you have to SMS e-SIM with SIMCHG to 199. Now you will get the option to configure your profile. Along with this, you will be given options to select the data plan. After this your physical SIM will be converted into e-SIM.

Which phones support E-SIM?

E-SIM option on iPhones

At present only a few selected smartphones are offering the option of e-SIM. You can use e-SIM in smartphones running above iOS 12.1. You can avail the benefits of e-SIM in iPhone XR, iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max, iPhone 11, iPhone 11 Pro, iPhone 11 Pro Max, iPhone SE, iPhone 12 mini, iPhone 12, iPhone 12 Pro, and iPhone 12 Pro Max.

E-SIM option in Google Pixel series

Similarly, in its Pixel series, Google gives the option to users to install e-SIM in Pixel 3, Pixel 3 XL, Pixel 3a, Pixel 3a XL, and Pixel 4a.

E-SIM option on Samsung smartphones

If you have Samsung Galaxy Z Flip, Samsung Galaxy Fold, Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra 5G, Samsung Galaxy Note 20, Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 2, or Samsung Galaxy S21 5G, Samsung Galaxy S21+ 5G, Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra 5G, then You can also install e-SIM in these smartphones.

E-SIM option will be available on these Motorola phones

If you have Motorola Razr and Motorola Razr 5G then you can use the e-SIM feature in it also.
