IPL 2022 | Chennai Super Kings (CSK) opener Ruturaj Gaikwad has returned to form. In the match played against Sunrisers Hyderabad on Sunday, he scored 99 runs and put on 182 runs for the first wicket with Devon Conway. This was the highest partnership for the first wicket for CSK in IPL history. Gaikwad and Conway broke the record held by Faf du Plessis and Shane Watson.

Watson and du Plessis shared a partnership of 181 runs for the first wicket against Punjab Kings in the 2020 IPL. However, both of them played an unbreakable partnership. Conway returned not out after scoring 85 off 55 balls. Last season, Gaikwad and Faf du Plessis opened the innings for CSK. Du Plessis is captaining the Royal Challengers Bangalore team this season.

After breaking the partnership record, Gaikwad said in an interview given on CSK's official website, "It feels great to make this record. We didn't expect it. We just wanted to give the team a good start. I think du Plessis must be a little jealous of me.
