Farmer Protest News: The farmers' march towards Delhi was temporarily suspended after Haryana Police fired tear gas shells at Shambhu border on Friday. Many farmers were injured in this incident, due to which farmer leader Sarwan Singh Pandher announced the withdrawal of the 'Jatha'. He said that this decision has been taken in view of the improvement in the condition of the injured farmers and the possibility of talks with the central government.Farmers' next strategyPandher said that the next Jatha will now leave on Sunday at 12 noon. He said, "The SP of Haryana Police asked us what level of talks we want with the central government. We have made it clear that our talks should be with the Union Agriculture Minister or any other senior Union Minister."Haryana Police assured that their demands will be conveyed to the central government. Pandher said, "We are giving one day's time so that the central government considers our demands. This time is also important for the treatment of injured farmers and review of the situation." Commitment to peaceful protest"We are not in favour of confrontation. Our aim is clear—either we should be allowed to go to Delhi, or the central government should talk to us," Pandher said after discussions with Haryana police officials. Haryana government officials have sought details of their demands from the farmers.Peaceful protest against BJP leadersThe farmer leader also said that their protest against BJP leaders in Punjab will continue, but it will be completely peaceful. "We have decided that wherever BJP leaders go, we will protest peacefully. The aim of our movement is to stay away from any violence," Pandher added.Tear gas and farmers' struggleOn Friday, a batch of 101 farmers left for Delhi from Shambhu border. However, they were stopped at a short distance by Haryana Police by barricading and tear gas shells. The farmers claimed that several people were injured in the action and were taken to hospital. The Haryana Police stopped the protesters from moving ahead, citing prohibitory orders imposed under Section 144 of the Indian Penal Code. The farmers expressed anger over this action of the police, but decided to postpone the agitation and maintain peace.Demand for talks with the central governmentThis demand of the farmers is mainly based on the agricultural reform laws of the central government and the MSP guarantee. In this new phase of the farmers' movement, the stand of the central government regarding the initiative of talks will be important.ConclusionThe incident at Shambhu border demonstrates the confrontation between the farmers and the administration. However, the farmers have taken a day's pause, insisting on peaceful agitation and talks. In the coming days, the response of the central government and the status of the talks will determine the direction of this movement.
