Congress' poor show in Bihar elections

The meeting was held after the Congress party's poor performance in the recently concluded Bihar Assembly elections. The Congress was termed the 'weak link' of the Grand Alliance by the rival NDA. The Congress had on Thursday said it was disappointed with its performance in Bihar Assembly elections and the party's working committee would soon review it.

The Congress managed to win only 19 of the 70 seats it had contested, down from its previous tally of 27 seats out of 41 it had fought in the 2015 assembly elections in the state.

Reacting to the performance of his party in the Bihar election, Congress General Secretary Tariq Anwar said the Mahagathbandhan could not gain majority due to the grand old party's "weak show" in recently held state Assembly polls. "We must accept the truth. Due to the weak performance of Congress, Bihar was left out of the Grand Alliance Government. MIM's entry into Bihar is not auspicious sign," Anwar said in a tweet.
