Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi visited India on 18-19 August. He held the 24th round of talks with NSA Ajit Doval on the border dispute. Wang met PM Modi and S. Jaishankar. Both countries agreed to enhance border peace, trade, direct flights, visa facilities and cooperation.

India-China Relation: Chinese Foreign Minister and Politburo member of the Communist Party of China Wang Yi visited India on 18-19 August 2025. The visit took place at the invitation of India's National Security Advisor (NSA) Ajit Doval. During this, Wang Yi met External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, as well as co-chaired the 24th talks of special representatives on the border dispute with Doval on 19 August. During this visit, many important consensuses were reached on strengthening India-China relations and maintaining peace in the border areas.

Talks and progress on border dispute

India and China acknowledged that peace and stability has been maintained in the border areas since the 23rd talks. During this visit, both the countries agreed to set up expert groups and working groups for consultation and coordination on border matters. In addition, it was decided to activate the border management system at the diplomatic and military levels. The next Special Representative Talks (25th) will be held in China.

Agreement on bilateral relations

The meeting between Wang Yi and S. Jaishankar emphasized on making India-China relations stable and cooperative. Both sides expressed commitment to increase cooperation on regional and global forums. China welcomed the participation of Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the SCO (Shanghai Cooperation Organization) summit, while India supported China's presidency. Along with this, both the countries agreed to support each other in hosting the BRICS summit.

Direct flights and 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations

There has been an agreement to start direct flights between the two countries soon and simplify visa facilities. The 75th anniversary of India-China diplomatic relations will be celebrated in the year 2025, for which joint cultural and diplomatic programs will be organized. Apart from this, the third meeting will be held in India in 2026.

Resumption of Kailash-Mansarovar Yatra

During Wang Yi's visit, the resumption of Kailash-Mansarovar Yatra was also discussed. This pilgrimage will not only be started in 2026, but emphasis was also laid on making it more extensive. This step is an important initiative towards strengthening cultural and religious ties between the two countries.

Trade and water cooperation

According to the Ministry of External Affairs, it has been decided to resume border trade from Lipulekh, Shipki La and Nathu La passes. Both the countries resolved to take concrete steps to increase trade. Along with this, an understanding was also reached on strengthening cooperation on cross-border rivers and sharing water-related information. This cooperation will promote environmental and economic cooperation between the two countries.
