IND vs ENG / Gill got the support of this veteran, said – this had happened with Stokes as well

The Indian team suffered a setback at the beginning of the England tour when it lost the first Test match by five wickets. Questions were raised on Shubman Gill's captaincy, but Alastair Cook defended him. The second Test at Edgbaston will be challenging, where India has not won a single match so far.

IND vs ENG: The start of the England tour has been disappointing for the Indian cricket team. In the first match of the five-match Test series, Team India had to face defeat by 5 wickets at the hands of England. In this match, India had set a challenging target of 371 runs in the fourth innings in front of the English team, but the hosts successfully achieved it. After the defeat, Team India's new Test captain Shubman Gill has faced the most criticism.

Alastair Cook supports Gill

Amidst this defeat of the team and questions on Gill's captaincy, former England captain and legendary batsman Alastair Cook has come out in his support. Speaking on the 'Stick to Cricket' show, Cook said,

"When a new captain takes charge of the team, it takes time for the players to get used to playing under his leadership. It would be too early to criticize Shubman Gill."

Cook gave the example of England captain Ben Stokes and said,

"When Stokes became the captain, he announced to play Test cricket in his own style. It took time for the rest of the players to adjust to his thinking. The same process will happen with Shubman Gill as well. He will have to be given some time."

India's historic challenge in Edgbaston Test

Now the Indian team has to play the next Test from July 2 at Edgbaston, where their record has been very poor. So far, India has played a total of 8 Test matches on this ground, out of which 7 have been lost and one has been a draw.

In the year 2022 also, India suffered a crushing defeat on the same ground, when England won the match by 7 wickets after achieving the target of 378 runs in the fourth innings. In such a situation, this match will be no less than a big litmus test for Gill.
