New Delhi: US Congressman Andy Levin has welcomed the Centre’s move to repeal the three farm laws in India, reported PTI. In his statement on Friday, Levin said, “Glad to see that after more than a year of protests, the three farm bills in India will be repealed.” The Congressman took to Twitter to welcome the move. “Glad to see that after more than a year of protests, the three farm bills in India will be repealed. This is proof that when workers stick together, they can defeat corporate interests and achieve progress - in India and around the world,” wrote Andy in his tweet. Andy is a member of the Democratic Party and the US Representative for Michigan’s 9th Congressional district.On Friday during his address to the nation on the auspicious occasion of Guru Nanak Jayanti, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced the Centre’s decision to repeal the three farm laws. "I have come to tell you that we have decided to repeal the three farm laws. In the upcoming Parliament session starting at the end of this month, we will complete the constitutional process to repeal the three farm laws," said Modi in his address. Farmers have been protesting at the borders of Delhi against the three laws that were passed by the Parliament on September 27 last year. These three laws were Farmers' Produce Trade and Commerce (Promotion and Facilitation) Act, 2020; Farmers' (Empowerment and Protection) Agreement on Price Assurance and Farm Services Act, 2020; and the Essential Commodities (Amendment) Act, 2020.The farmers had also been demanding to implement a new law to guarantee the Minimum Support Price (MSP) for the farmers.
