Government eases travel norms for passengers: Amid the decreasing cases of corona in the country, the central government has relaxed the travel rules for passengers from China and six other countries. However, random testing of 2 percent of the passengers coming to India will continue for the time being. Health Ministry updates 'Guidelines for International Arrivals' for international arrivals from China, Japan, Singapore, South Korea, Thailand and Hong Kong Removed the existing requirements for passengers to undergo pre-departure Covid-19 test and upload self health declaration.

In a letter to the Ministry of Civil Aviation, the Ministry of Health has said that as seen in the last 4 weeks, there is a continuous and significant decline in the pace of Kovid-19 cases in these countries. Further, according to the World Health Organization's (WHO) latest situational update on Covid-19, an 89 per cent decline in the number of new confirmed cases has been observed globally in the last 28 days.

Why was the decision taken?

The letter states, 'Meanwhile, there is a steady decline in new cases of corona in India, with less than 100 new cases/day being reported. The ministry is updating its guidelines for international arrivals. Self-health declaration is uploaded on the 'Air Suvidha' portal of the Ministry of Civil Aviation for international passengers coming from Kovid-19 test China, Singapore, Hong Kong, Republic of Korea, Thailand and Japan.

Health Secretary Rajesh Bhushan has said in the letter, 'The exercise of random testing of 2 percent passengers on arrival in India will continue to monitor the infection due to mutated variants of SARS-CoV-2 among international passengers arriving in India.' Let us tell you that this new system will come into force on February 13 from 11 am.
