IPL 2023: Defending champions Gujarat Titans have made a winning start in the 16th season of the Indian Premier League ie IPL. The team defeated four-time champions Chennai Super Kings by 5 wickets with 4 balls to spare in a thrilling encounter. This is Gujarat's third consecutive win over Chennai.

On Friday night at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, Gujarat captain Hardik Pandya won the toss and decided to bowl. Batting after losing the coin here, scored 178 runs for 7 wickets in 20 overs. The target of 179 runs was achieved by Gujarat Titans for 5 wickets in 19.2 overs.

Half-century partnership between Gill-Sudarshan

Opener Shubman Gill and impact player Sai Sudarshan shared a 53-run partnership off 35 balls. Here Sudarshan got out after scoring 22 runs.

Explosive start of Gujarat in Powerplay

Chasing the target of 179 runs, Shubman Gill and Wriddhiman Saha got Gujarat off to a brisk start. Both shared a 37-run partnership, Saha was the victim of Rajvardhan Hungergekar after scoring 25 runs. Gill led the innings with Sai Sudarshan and took the team's score to 65 in 6 overs of the powerplay.

First: Hungergekar, who was debuting, got Saha caught by Shivam Dubey on the 5th ball of the fourth over.

Second: On the third ball of the 10th over, Hengargekar got Sai Sudarshan caught by Dhoni.

Third: Jadeja bowled Pandya on the first ball of the 13th over.

Fourth: On the last ball of the 15th over, Tushar Deshpande got Gill caught by Gaikwad at deep midwicket.

Gaikwad's half-century, Chennai scored 178 runs

Batting after losing the toss, the Chennai batsmen scored 178 runs losing 7 wickets in 20 overs. Opener Rituraj Gaikwad scored the highest 92 runs. Moin Ali scored 23 runs. Shivam Dubey scored 19 runs in the middle order and captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni scored 14 runs. Mohammed Shami, Rashid Khan and Alzarri Joseph took 2-2 wickets for GT.

Gaikwad misses century

Chennai Super Kings got off to an explosive start by opening batsman Rituraj Gaikwad. He completed the half century in the first 23 balls and then took his team's score beyond 150. He finally fell victim to Alzarri Joseph after scoring 92 off 50 balls. In this innings he hit 4 fours and 9 sixes.

Fast start in power play, also lost 2 wickets

Batting first after losing the toss, Chennai Super Kings got off to a bad start. Devon Conway was bowled by Mohammed Shami in the third over itself. After him, Moeen Ali got the team off to a brisk start. He scored 23 runs in 17 balls with the help of 4 fours and a six. In the very last over of the power play, Moeen was dismissed by Rashid Khan. After which the team finished their powerplay by scoring 51 runs in 6 overs at the loss of 2 wickets.
