Delhi Free Schemes / How much money does a common man save in a month from Kejriwal's freebies?

Delhi government's free schemes such as 200 units of electricity, 20,000 litres of water and free bus service for women give an average saving of ₹2,500 every month. Other schemes also include education in government schools, free treatment in government hospitals and pension schemes.

Delhi Free Schemes: After becoming the Chief Minister of Delhi in 2015, Arvind Kejriwal's 200 units of free electricity and 20,000 liters of free water scheme gained tremendous popularity. Now, 10 years later, before the results of the assembly elections, the same question is being raised again - will these facilities continue?

Free electricity: How much savings every month?

In Delhi, electricity is free up to 200 units and 50% subsidy is available for 201 to 400 units. If we talk about 200 units, then according to the tariff, its cost would be ₹ 600, meter charge ₹ 20 and other charges up to ₹ 800, but this amount is borne by the government. If the consumption is 400 units, then the total bill would be around ₹ 2100, but due to subsidy the consumer would have to pay only ₹ 1100-₹ 1200. Overall, the free electricity scheme saves the common man an average of ₹1000 per month.

Free water: How much relief?

The Delhi government provides 20,000 liters of water free to every family. On an average, a family spends 500-600 liters of water daily, which covers most people. If this facility was not available, then according to the water board tariff, ₹350 per month and additional taxes would have to be paid for 20,000 liters of water. That is, the free water scheme saves an average of ₹500.

Free bus service for women

Women are getting the facility of free bus travel in Delhi since 2019-20. If a woman travels with a daily pass, which costs ₹50, then at least ₹1250 is saved on a 25-day journey.

Total monthly savings: Relief to the common family?

These three schemes alone provide a direct saving of ₹2500 to a common man every month. Apart from this, facilities like free education in government schools, free treatment in government hospitals, pilgrimage scheme, pension schemes and the newly announced Mahila Bhatta Yojana provide additional benefits.

In the upcoming elections, the current government has promised to give ₹2100 monthly allowance to women, while Congress and BJP are talking of giving ₹2500. Now it remains to be seen whether these schemes will continue or there will be any change in them.
