The International Cricket Council (ICC) has officially updated the T20I player rankings amidst the ongoing T20 World Cup 2026. Indian wicketkeeper-batsman Ishan Kishan has emerged as a major gainer in the latest standings, while following his explosive innings of 77 runs against Pakistan in a high-stakes World Cup encounter, Kishan has secured a place among the top 10 batters in the world. He moved up 17 positions to claim the 8th rank, marking a significant milestone in his international career.

Ishan Kishan and Abhishek Sharma Lead Indian Charge

According to the latest data from the ICC, Ishan Kishan's performance against Pakistan was the primary catalyst for his rapid ascent. His 77-run knock provided him with the necessary rating points to break into the elite top 10 list. Meanwhile, fellow Indian opener Abhishek Sharma has managed to retain his position as the world's number one T20I batter. Despite being dismissed for a duck in the match against Pakistan, Sharma's previous consistent performances have kept him at the summit. England's Phil Salt continues to hold the second position in the batting department.

Global Batting Shifts and Pathum Nissanka's Century

The rankings witnessed several shifts following recent international fixtures. Sri Lankan batsman Pathum Nissanka made a significant move after scoring a brilliant century against Australia in Kandy. His performance propelled him three places up to the 3rd position. India's Tilak Varma also saw an improvement, moving up one spot to 4th. Conversely, Pakistan's Sahibzada Farhan dropped two places to 5th, and England's Jos Buttler fell three spots to 7th. New Zealand's Tim Seifert and Australia's Travis Head also experienced slight declines, occupying the 9th and 10th positions respectively.

Varun Chakravarthy Maintains Dominance in Bowling

In the bowling department, India's mystery spinner Varun Chakravarthy remains the top-ranked T20I bowler with 787 rating points. He faces stiff competition from Afghanistan's Rashid Khan, who has climbed one spot to reach the 2nd position, narrowing the gap with Chakravarthy. Another notable performer is Zimbabwe's fast bowler Brad Evans. After taking three wickets in each of his last two World Cup matches, Evans jumped 10 places to achieve a career-best 5th ranking. Among other Indian bowlers, Jasprit Bumrah is currently ranked 15th, while Axar Patel holds the 14th spot.
