ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan said on Tuesday that he would like to have a televised debate with Prime Minister Narendra Modi to resolve differences between India and Pakistan. Khan made the remarks during an interview with Russia's state-run television network RT on the eve of his first visit to Moscow.

Why does Imran want to argue with PM Modi?

For the first time in the last two decades, a Pakistani Prime Minister is visiting Russia. During his two-day visit, Khan will hold talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin and discuss key regional and international issues. In response to a question, Khan said, "I would like to have a debate on TV with Narendra Modi." He said that if the differences between India and Pakistan can be resolved through debate, it will be very good for the people of the subcontinent There will be talk.

Imran spoke to India as soon as he became PM

Responding to a question, Khan said that when his party Tehreek-e-Insaf came to power in 2018, he had immediately contacted India and asked the Indian leadership to resolve the Kashmir issue through talks. He said that India did not give any positive response to his initiative. Relations between the two neighboring countries were further strained after the 2016 terrorist attack on the Pathankot air force base by terrorist organizations in India.

The relationship got worse than before.

Several subsequent attacks, including the attack on the Indian Army camp in Uri, soured relations. Subsequently, India in response to the Pulwama terrorist attack, on 26 February 2019, entered Pakistan and attacked the terrorist training camp of Jaish-e-Mohammed with warplanes. In August 2019, India announced the end of the special status of Jammu and Kashmir and bifurcation of it into two Union Territories, after which relations got worse than before.

What did Imran say on Ukraine-Russia conflict?

India has repeatedly told Pakistan that Jammu and Kashmir was, is and will be an important part of the country. . Khan expressed hope for a "peaceful solution" to the ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine and said military conflicts can never solve problems. Khan said he was confident that Ukraine and Russia were aware of the consequences of the conflict.
