The smoldering spark for canal water has now flared up in Ghadsana, Sriganganagar. Thousands of farmers took hostage about 150 police personnel including DSP late on Saturday night. They were not allowed to come out even in the morning. Amidst the tension, heavy police force has been deployed in Ghadsana. In contrast to the farmers' movement on the Delhi-Haryana border, the Gehlot government of Rajasthan is targeting the farmers in this movement.

These are the farmers who are leaving the field and demanding water for irrigation. Farmers are afraid that if they are not given water in a few days, thousands of acres of their crop will be ruined. The long-running farmers' agitation broke out because no representative of the state government turned up for talks. Now more than 10 thousand farmers have gathered here and this number is increasing continuously. The farmers have also arranged for langar under the strategy of long agitation.

Warning of farmers - and agitation may flare up

The farmers had warned several days ago that if the fields came on the verge of destruction, they would launch a fierce agitation. The farmers said that their declaration was a struggle for water. No one will be able to move in or out of the SDM office till the water is available. Those taken hostage include DSP Jaidev Sihag and another high police officer. Farmers have warned of intensifying the struggle on Sunday.

On Saturday, when the police were stopping the farmers moving towards the SDM office. Then the farmers threw barricades. A barricade also fell on the head of the police jawan, he did not get hurt much. On the other hand, BJP along with hundreds of farmers is also protesting and protesting in Ghadsana for the same demand.

The farmers had arranged langar outside the SDM office till late night. He said that we will continue to provide essential things like food and medicine for the officers and jawans. But during this time no one will be able to come to the SDM office nor will anyone be allowed to go out.

Reminiscent of the movement of 17 years ago

The Ghadsana area has been famous for the farmers' movement in the entire state. In 2004 too, farmers had agitated for canal water. Now after seventeen years, the farmers have once again set the rhythm for water. Even in 2004, the farmers had become very furious. The then government had to negotiate with the farmers and give them enough water.

The state government had sent the Chief Engineer of the Irrigation Department to Ghadsana to talk to the farmers in this matter. Negotiations were held between the farmers and the Chief Engineer, but to no avail. The Chief Engineer and the farmer stood firm on their point of view.
