India and China have completed the withdrawal of their troops from the Gogra region in eastern Ladakh, after 15 months of "sensitive confrontation", the army announced on Friday.

The clearing process, which included the removal of all temporary structures and other allied infrastructure by both parties and the restoration of the land's morphology to its "previous period", took place over two days, which are the 4 and Aug. 5, the military said in a statement.

"According to the agreement, the two parties ceased deployment in this area in phases, coordinated and verified ... The military of both parties are now in their permanent bases," the army added.

This development comes a few days after the 12th round of the Commander-in-Chief of Corps talks between India and China, which took place on July 31 at the ChushulMoldo meeting point on the Chinese side of the real line of control ( LAKE).

Defence and security establishment sources told the media, that as part of the withdrawal process, which was first initiated in the region in 2020 but was not completed by China, a buffer zone has been established. They said there would be no patrol in the region for the foreseeable future, either by India or China.

The sources added that the withdrawal involved "platoon strength" (a platoon of about 25 soldiers) on both sides. “The opt-out process was also launched last year. However, China has not completed the whole process and has retained a large number of troops, now they have withdrawn after a new agreement at the corps commander level, ”a source said.
