After being put in to bat first, India posted a formidable total of 209/9 in their allotted 20 hours. Despite a late collapse where they lost five wickets for just 4 runs, the total proved too much for Namibia. 2 overs, allowing India to climb to the top of the Group A points table.

Explosive Batting by Ishan Kishan and Hardik Pandya

The Indian innings was highlighted by aggressive batting from the start. Opener Ishan Kishan set the tone with a blistering 61 runs off just 24 deliveries. His innings included 5 sixes and 6 boundaries, reaching his half-century in a mere 20 balls. Later in the innings, Hardik Pandya took charge, scoring 52 runs off 28 balls, featuring 4 sixes and 4 fours. Their contributions were pivotal in taking India past the 200-run mark. The duo capitalized on any errors in length by the Namibian bowlers, ensuring a high run rate throughout the middle and death overs.

Gerhard Erasmus Leads Namibia's Bowling Attack

Namibian captain Gerhard Erasmus delivered a standout performance with the ball, providing crucial breakthroughs for his side. Erasmus finished with figures of 4/20 in his 4 overs, utilizing a mix of side-arm off-breaks and round-arm deliveries. His tactical bowling slowed down the Indian scoring rate during the middle overs and triggered a late-order collapse. Bernard Scholtz also contributed with a disciplined spell, claiming the wicket of Indian captain Suryakumar Yadav, who was stumped while attempting an aggressive shot.

India's Middle Order Contributions and Late Wicket Fall

Sanju Samson provided a brief but impactful cameo, scoring 22 runs off 8 balls, including three sixes, before being caught at cow corner. Captain Suryakumar Yadav managed 12 runs off 12 balls but fell to a sharp delivery from Scholtz. Tilak Varma added 25 runs to the total, though he struggled at times against the variations of Erasmus. Shivam Dube played a supporting role to Pandya, scoring 23 runs off 16 balls. 3 overs, which effectively took the game away from Namibia.

Varun Chakravarthy and Indian Bowlers Restrict Namibia

Defending a target of 210, the Indian bowlers maintained pressure from the opening over. Spinner Varun Chakravarthy was the pick of the bowlers, taking 3 wickets and dismantling the Namibian middle order. Axar Patel and Hardik Pandya supported well with 2 wickets each. For Namibia, Louren Steenkamp was the top scorer with 29 runs, but the rest of the batting lineup failed to build any significant partnerships. The disciplined Indian attack ensured that Namibia never got close to the required run rate, eventually bowling them out with 10 balls to spare.
