Delhi: Presidential Election: It is not easy to decide on a common candidate for the opposition trying to unite for the presidential election. After Sharad Pawar, Farooq Abdullah and now Gopal Krishna Gandhi have also refused to be candidates. This has dealt a severe blow to the opposition campaign. The opposition may now have to hold a marathon meeting afresh to decide the candidate.

According to political experts, the number of such leaders in the opposition camp is very limited, who can be accepted by all parties as presidential candidates. Actually, Sharad Pawar could have been the best option but he himself is not getting ready for it. However, efforts are still on to persuade them. At the same time, in the name of Gopal Krishna Gandhi, the opposition was expected to be largely unanimous, but they have also refused.

Last time the opposition had fielded him for the post of Vice President but he could not win. Presumably he understood the situations and therefore refused to be a candidate. But in the case of Farooq Abdullah, the chances of consent were slim. There are many political reasons behind this. But after his refusal, there is no need to throw light on those reasons now.

Trinamool Congress more active

The Trinamool Congress seems to be more active than the main opposition Congress in the presidential election. Until recently, Telangana Rashtra Samithi chief K. Chandrashekhar Rao was also seen active but he did not attend the meeting called on the initiative of Mamta recently. Due to which a message was also sent that the opposition parties have their own rhetoric regarding the presidential election.

NDA has less numbers

According to experts, the opposition is discouraged even though the NDA has less numbers. The reason is clear that there are difficulties in uniting the opposition and it is difficult to reach a consensus on the name of the candidate, whereas the NDA politics often spoils the plans of the opposition. Then parties like YSR Congress, BJD etc have also indicated that they are not at least with the opposition in this matter. Despite being invited to the last meeting, the BJD did not participate. Whereas YSR Congress was not even invited.

Apart from this, Aam Aadmi Party, BSP etc. were also absent in the meeting, which dealt a blow to the efforts of opposition unity. So it will be important to see which face the opposition bets on in the days to come. But it is clear from the circumstances that he will be able to fulfill only a formality by fielding the candidate.
