Srinagar: A terrorist has been killed in an encounter that broke out between the security forces and terrorists in the Thanamandi area of Jammu and Kashmir's Rajouri district on Thursday. An Army jawan has lost his life in the operation.

According to the police, one terrorist has been neutralized by the security forces in the Thanamandi encounter.

"One JCO of the Rashtriya Rifles had suffered bullet injuries in the encounter. The JCO was immediately evacuated to the nearest medical facility, but he succumbed to the injuries," said Defence Public Relations Officer (PRO), Jammu, Lt Col Devender Anand.

Acting on the inputs about the presence of terrorists in the area, the Security forces had launched a search operation which later turned into an encounter after the terrorists opened fire on the forces, who retaliated, the official said.

The operation is currently underway.

Earlier on August 6, two Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) terrorists were shot down by police in the same area.

Meanwhile, a joint patrolling party of the Indian Army and Jammu and Kashmir Police have arrested two bike-borne persons and recovered a pistol, two magazines, and 12 rounds from them.

They were arrested following a chase after one of them brandished the pistol when security forces asked them to stop in Kulgam yesterday, said the Police. An FIR has been registered in this regarding.
