Dubai : A major accident was averted yesterday at Dubai Airport. Two flights coming to India narrowly escaped after colliding with each other. The Directorate General of Civil Aviation of India (DGCI) has sought a report from the UAE Aviation Authority regarding this.

Sources reveal that Emirates Boeing 777 was scheduled to take off from Dubai International Airport for Hyderabad on Sunday, January 9. The aircraft had started the take-off run. Suddenly the pilot on board the plane was asked to abort his take-off. This is because another Emirates Boeing 777 which was scheduled to take off from Dubai to Bengaluru crossed the runway.

Hundreds of passengers were on board the two jetliners when the incident took place. Let us tell you that when the Hyderabad-based flight was asked to cancel the take-off run, at that time its speed was more than 240 kilometers per hour. The jet was able to stop safely at about 790 meters below the runway length. Due to this a major accident was averted.

According to Emirates' timetable, there was a gap of five minutes between the departure times of the two flights. Both the jets involved in the incident eventually took off for India.

According to sources in the Directorate General of Civil Aviation, "Both are their registered aircraft. So as per ICAO (International Civil Aviation Organisation) it will be investigated by them.” The DGCA of India has asked them to share the investigation report.

An investigation was launched by The Air Accident Investigation Sector, (AAIS), the UAE's aviation investigative body. A serious security lapse was reported to the airlines. Emirates Air has confirmed the incident and informed news agency ANI about the serious security breach.

There has also been talk of an internal investigation against the crew of the plane. As per preliminary reports, the Hyderabad-bound flight was proceeding for take-off without ATC clearance. Emirates deployed its Boeing-B777 aircraft after receiving information about the incident. These planes have a seating capacity of between 350 and 440 seats.
