Indore: The effect of the corona virus havoc is now visible in marriages as well. After a long gap in the Hindu community, the matrimonial muhurat is going to start from the week commencing on Monday. But due to the deadly outbreak of Corona epidemic, the administration in Indore of Madhya Pradesh has refused to approve marriage ceremonies at present. As a result, hundreds of marriages have been postponed and the plan of 'Band-Baja-Baaraat' of the people has been shelved.

District Magistrate Manish Singh said on Sunday, “We cannot allow wedding ceremonies in the district right now, given the outbreak of Covid-19. We are worried about the health of common people. Significantly, in view of the high infection rate of the epidemic, the administration decided on Saturday that the corona curfew (partial lockdown) in Indore's urban areas will continue from April 12 till April 23.

Meanwhile, Sumit Suri, president of the Indore Hoteliers Association, said, "There were about 1,500 weddings booked in local hotels and matrimonial halls in April and May. But due to the outbreak of the epidemic, people have canceled most of the bookings. He quoted a rough estimate that postponing these marriages would cause a loss of at least Rs 200 crore to the local hotel industry.

Significantly, Indore is the most affected district of Kovid-19 in the state, where there is a shortage of Remedesivir medicine and medical oxygen especially in the midst of the deadly outbreak of the second wave of the epidemic. Along with this, patients are having to work hard to get an extra bed in hospitals. A health department official said that a total of 89,317 pandemic patients have been found in Indore district since March 24, 2020. Of these, 1,047 people have died during treatment.
