MI vs LSG: 5-time champion Mumbai Indians defeated Lucknow Supergiants by 81 runs in the eliminator match of Indian Premier League-2023. With this victory, Rohit Sharma's team has reached Qualifier-2 of the current season of the league. In Qualifier-2, Mumbai will face defending champions Gujarat Titans on May 26 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. Batting first after winning the toss at the Chepauk Stadium in Chennai, Mumbai scored 182 runs for 8 wickets in 20 overs. In reply, Lucknow got all out for 101 runs in 16.3 overs.

Madhwal bowled the best bowling spell of the playoffs

Akash Madhwal of Mumbai took 5 wickets for just 5 runs. This is the best bowling figure of the IPL playoffs, before that this record was in the name of CSK's Doug Ballinger. Ballinger took 4 for 13 against Delhi in 2010. Madhwal also bowled the fifth best spell of IPL. Before him, Anil Kumble took 5 wickets for 3 runs against Rajasthan in 2009. Whereas Adam Zampa, Sohail Tanvir and Alzarri Joseph have taken 6-6 wickets in a single match. Joseph took 12 wickets, Tanveer 14 and Zampa took 19 wickets.

Lucknow lost after losing 8 wickets for the last 32 runs

Chasing a target of 183 runs, Lucknow got off to a steady start but kept losing wickets in the middle overs and fell 81 runs short of the score.

Electing to bat after winning the toss, Cameron Green scored 41 off 23 balls for Mumbai, while Suryakumar Yadav scored 33 runs. In the last, Nehal Wadhera played an explosive inning of 23 runs off 12 balls. He scored 2 fours and 2 sixes.

Naveen-ul-Haq took 4 wickets for 38 runs, while Yash Thakur got two successes.

In the counter-innings, Marcus Stoinis scored 40 and Kyle Meyers scored 18 runs from Lucknow. The remaining batsmen of the team could not score more than 15 runs. In bowling, Akash Madhwal took 5 wickets by giving 5 runs. Chris Jordan and Piyush Chawla got one wicket each.

Sixth: Marcus Stoinis was run out on the 5th ball of the 12th over.

Seventh: Krishnappa Gautam also got runout on the third ball of the 13th over.

Eighth: On the third ball of the 15th over, Akash Madhwal got Ravi Bishnoi caught by Chris Jordan.

Ninth: Deepak Hooda got runout on the 5th ball of the 15th over.

LSG lost 8 wickets in scoring 32 runs

After a steady start in the powerplay, Piyush Chawla got Krunal Pandya caught out in the 9th over. In the very next over, Akash Madhwal removed Ayush Badoni and Nicholas Pooran. After Chawla and Madhwal, Marcus Stoinis and Krishnappa Gautam were run out in the next two overs. The team's score went from 2 for 69 to 7 for 92. Madhwal also made Ravi Bishnoi walk on the score of 100 runs. Deepak Hooda was run out in the same over. The team also lost the last wicket on the score of 101. In this way LSG lost 8 wickets in scoring 32 runs.

LSG lost 2 wickets in powerplay

Chasing the target of 183 runs, Lucknow got off to a bad start. The team lost the wicket of Prerak Mankad in the very second over. Kyle Meyers was also dismissed in the fourth over. But thanks to the innings of Marcus Stoinis, the team scored 54 runs in 6 overs.

Eighth: On the last ball of the 20th over, Yash Thakur got Nehal Wadhera caught by Ravi Bishnoi.

Half-century partnership between Surya-Green

After losing 2 wickets in Powerplay, Suryakumar Yadav and Cameron Green did Fifty Partnership on 26 balls. Both scored 66 runs on 38 balls. Surya was dismissed after scoring 33 runs in 20 balls and this partnership was broken. After Surya, Cameron Green also became a victim of Naveen-ul-Haq. Green scored 41 runs.

2 shocks to Mumbai, still scored 62 runs

Mumbai's performance in the powerplay was mixed. The team scored 62 runs in 6 overs even after losing the wickets of captain Rohit Sharma (11 runs) and Ishaan Kishan (15 runs). Naveen-ul-Haq and Yash Thakur gave Lucknow the early breakthroughs.
