NZ vs BAN: New Zealand has won its third consecutive match in the ODI World Cup 2023. The team defeated Bangladesh by 8 wickets at Chepauk ground in Chennai. Earlier, the team had also defeated defending champions England and Afghanistan. In Chennai, Bangladesh lost the toss and batted first and scored 245 runs for 9 wickets in 50 overs. In reply, New Zealand achieved the target by losing 2 wickets in 42.5 overs. Kane Williamson scored 78 and Daryl Mitchell scored 89 runs. Lockie Ferguson took 3 wickets in the first innings.

Mitchell's innings finished

Even after Williamson retired, Daryl Mitchell continued his innings. He scored 89 runs on 67 balls and along with Glenn Phillips led the team to victory. Phillips scored 16 runs on 11 balls. From the team, Rachin Ravindra scored 9, Devon Conway scored 45 and Kane Williamson scored 78 runs.

Mustafizur Rahman and Shakib Al Hasan got 1-1 wicket from Bangladesh. Rest of the bowlers could not take any wicket.

Williamson retired hurt after scoring 78 runs

After losing the first wicket for 12 runs, captain Kane Williamson along with Daryl Mitchell took charge of New Zealand. After completing his fifty, Williamson also made a century partnership with Daryl Mitchell. Williamson is returning from injury, but while taking a run, he was hit by the ball in his injured hand. Due to which he retired hurt at the score of 78 runs and returned to the pavilion.

New Zealand lost one wicket in powerplay

The Kiwi team, which came to chase the target of 246 runs, had a bad start. The team lost the wicket of Rachin Ravindra in the third over itself. But after his wicket the team batted cautiously. Mushfiqur Rahim took charge of Bangladesh after losing the first 4 wickets quickly. He made a partnership of 96 runs with Shakib Al Hasan and also completed his fifty. He was bowled after scoring 66 runs and Bangladesh's hopes of taking it to a big score were dashed. He was dismissed by Matt Henry.

Shakib-Mushfiqur took over Bangladesh

Bangladesh team, which came to bat first after losing the toss, had a bad start. They lost 4 wickets for 67 runs only. Liton Das 0, Tanjeed Hasan Tamim 16, Mehdi Hasan Miraj 30 and Nazmul Hussain Shanto were out after scoring 7 runs.
