PM Modi Europe Visit / No country can be victorious in the war between Russia and Ukraine, PM Modi said in Germany

Berlin. Prime Minister Narendra Modi said in Germany on Monday that no country can emerge victorious in the ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine. Along with appealing for an end to the war, he also emphasized that India supports peace. PM Modi met German Chancellor Olaf Scholz on Monday in which the two leaders are expected to exchange views on strategic, regional and global developments. Prime Minister Modi arrived in Germany on Monday morning on the first leg of his three-nation tour of Europe. Modi will also visit Denmark and France during his visit. Prime Minister Modi's Europe visit is taking place in the midst of the Ukraine crisis, on which almost the whole of Europe is united against Russia. On his arrival in Berlin, Prime Minister Modi inspects the guard of honor in the forecourt of the Chancellor's Office (Chancellory) where he is holding talks with Chancellor Olaf Scholz. The Prime Minister's Office tweeted, "Expanding India-Germany cooperation. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chancellor Olaf Scholz met in Berlin.

This is Prime Minister Modi's first meeting with German Chancellor Scholz, who took office in December 2021. The two leaders had previously met at the G20 meeting last year, when Scholz was then vice chancellor and finance minister. Modi and Olaf will co-chair the 6th India-Germany Intergovernmental Consultations (IGC) event. IGC was started in 2011. It is an exclusive biennial mechanism that allows the governments of both countries to coordinate on a wide range of bilateral issues. Several ministers of both the countries will also participate in this program. The Ministry of External Affairs said that Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar and National Security Advisor Ajit Doval will also participate in the meeting.


PM Modi's 5th German visit

This is Prime Minister Modi's fifth visit to Germany. He had previously visited Germany in April 2018, July 2017, May 2017 and April 2015. Before leaving for Europe, Prime Minister Modi had said in his statement that his visit to Berlin would provide an opportunity to hold talks with Chancellor Scholz, whom he had met at the G20 last year, when he was vice chancellor and finance minister. "We will co-chair the 6th India-Germany Inter-Governmental Consultations (IGC), an exclusive program that India does only with Germany," he said.


'India and Germany Strategic Partners Since 2000'

The Prime Minister said, “I see this IGC as an initiative of dialogue with the new government of Germany, which is taking place within six months of the formation of the government. This will help in identifying medium and long term priorities.” Prime Minister Modi said that in the year 2021, India and Germany celebrated 70 years of diplomatic relations and both the countries have been strategic partners since 2000. "I look forward to holding talks with Chancellor Scholz on issues related to strategic, regional and global development between the two countries," he said. Both the leaders will also address a high level meeting and will also interact with the CEOs of top company of both the countries.


PM Modi and Chancellor Scholz to address 'Business Round Table'

“The long-term commercial relationship between India and Germany is a pillar of our strategic partnership,” he said, adding that Chancellor Scholz and I will also address the ‘Business Round Table’ together. Its goal is to generate new energy in the coordination between our industries, which will help us in the economic recovery between the two countries after the Kovid-19 pandemic.” The Ministry of External Affairs said that this 'round table' will further strengthen the trade ties of the two countries. The Prime Minister is also scheduled to address the Indian community in Germany. The Ministry of External Affairs said that this visit will set a blueprint for the future of deepening ties between India and Germany.
