Cricket Desk: Delhi Capitals head coach Ricky Ponting has admitted that Rishabh Pant possibly made a mistake by not letting Ravichandran Ashwin bowl his four overs against Rajasthan Royals.

The off-spinner, back to his best after an expensive outing against Chennai Super Kings, conceded just 14 runs from his opening three overs.

However, rather than bring the veteran back for his final over, Pant opted to use medium-pacer Marcus Stoinis in the 13th over. The Australian was hit for three consecutive boundaries by David Miller in an over which cost his side 15 runs.

Delhi went on to lose the match by three wickets, conceding 85 runs from their final 7.3 overs as Miller and Chris Morris ran riot with the bat.

Speaking in his post-match press conference, Ponting said: "I thought he [Ashwin] bowled beautifully, so probably it was a mistake on our behalf.

"He gave away only 14 in his three overs, hadn’t conceded a boundary. He had a disappointing game in the previous match. He’s worked really hard on his bowling to make that he gets things right in this game.

"It’s certainly something we will talk about when I get the chance to sit down with the team."
