New Delhi | Senior Congress leader Pawan Bansal says that he is not in the race for the post of party president. In fact, due to the ongoing crisis in the Rajasthan unit of the Congress, there is doubt about Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot contesting for the post of President. But in the meantime, senior party leader Pawan Kumar Bansal had called for the nomination papers on Tuesday. However, it was not clear whether he would contest the election himself or whether he took the step on behalf of another candidate. Now Pawan Bansal himself has given clarification regarding this.

Pawan Bansal said that he had called for nomination papers not for himself but for someone else to become a proposer. On calling for nomination forms for the Congress President's election, Bansal said, "Everyone has asked for those papers. We should keep things ready. Whoever contests (for the post of Congress President) should make 10 people as proposers to file nominations." That's why I am one of the movers. As a mover, I am present."

Before former Railway Minister Pawan Bansal, Congress party's Central Election Authority chief Madhusudan Mistry had said that Bansal "probably will support someone and will not contest the elections himself". and handed over her identity card as a delegate (member of the electoral college).

Bansal, a Congress treasurer and a trusted confidant of the Gandhi family, has taken his nomination papers at a time when a question mark has arisen over Gehlot's contesting elections. Till a few days ago, he was seen as the strongest candidate for the post of president. As per the announced schedule for the election of Congress President, the notification was issued on September 22 and the process of filing nomination papers started from September 24, which will continue till September 30. The last date for withdrawal of nomination papers is October 8. In case of more than one candidate, polling will be held on October 17 and results will be declared on October 19.
