The national capital of India, New Delhi, is all set to host the prestigious BRICS Summit 2026 on September 12 and September 13. As the city prepares for this significant diplomatic event, a large number of foreign dignitaries and heads of state have already started arriving in Delhi. Russian President Vladimir Putin has reached New Delhi, while Chinese President Xi Jinping is expected to arrive on September 12. During the course of the summit, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Droupadi Murmu will engage in several bilateral discussions with the visiting leaders and their representatives. Bilateral Engagements on September 11

The diplomatic activities will commence on September 11 with several high-profile meetings. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to hold a bilateral meeting with the President of Russia, Vladimir Putin, while this meeting is expected to be a significant part of the pre-summit engagements. Also, PM Modi will meet with the President of Iran, Masoud Pezeshkian. The Prime Minister is also slated to hold discussions with the Secretary-General of the United Nations, Antonio Guterres, on the same day.

Schedule for September 12

September 12 marks the official beginning of the BRICS Summit 2026, and the day is packed with multiple bilateral sessions. Prime Minister Modi will meet with the Prime Minister of Ethiopia, Abiy Ahmed Ali, while this will be followed by a meeting with the Prime Minister of Malaysia, Anwar Ibrahim. Another key engagement for the Prime Minister will be with the Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan. PM Modi is also scheduled to hold talks with the Prime Minister of Vietnam, Le Minh Hung. In a significant diplomatic move, Prime Minister Modi will hold a meeting with the President of China, Xi Jinping, on this day. Plus, President Droupadi Murmu is scheduled to meet with the Iranian President, Masoud Pezeshkian, on September 12.

Prime Minister Modi will meet with the President of Kazakhstan, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, while he's also scheduled to hold a meeting with the President of the Philippines, Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. The Prime Minister will then engage in talks with the President of Egypt, Abdel Fattah el-Sisi. This will be followed by a meeting with the President of South Africa, Matamela Cyril Ramaphosa. PM Modi is also slated to meet with the President of Burundi, Evariste Ndayishimiye. On top of that, the Prime Minister will hold discussions with the Vice President of Nigeria, Kashim Shettima, and the Vice President of Uganda, Jessica Alupo.

Stringent Security Measures in Delhi

In view of the BRICS Summit, security across Delhi has been Notably tightened. To handle any emergency situation, more than 100 Black Cat commandos from the NSG and SWAT teams from the Delhi Police have been deployed. High-tech anti-drone systems and radars have been installed around Bharat Mandapam and the 11 major hotels where the foreign guests are staying to provide aerial surveillance. The security apparatus is designed to ensure the safety of all international delegates and the smooth conduct of the summit.

Public Restrictions and Closures

To facilitate the movement of VVIP convoys and ensure foolproof security, strict regulations are in place in New Delhi from today until September 13. The Delhi Traffic Police has established 22 diversion points and closed more than 35 roads for general traffic. To minimize congestion and bolster security, all offices, schools, and colleges in Delhi are completely closed today. Intensive checking of suspicious vehicles is being carried out at the borders adjacent to Delhi to maintain law and order during this high-profile international event.
