NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Modi on Monday marked International Women's Day by purchasing several products that celebrate their "enterprise, creativity and India's culture".

Sharing the products PM bought from women entrepreneurs, he said the products purchased "celebrate women enterprise, creativity and India's culture".

Prime Minister Modi bought a 'gamucha' from Assam, a shawl from Nagaland, a handcrafted Gond Paper Painting from Self-Help Groups and women entrepreneurs.

Women are playing a leading role in India's quest to become 'aatmanirbhar', he tweeted, urging people to commit themselves to encouraging entrepreneurship among women.

Earlier in the day, PM Modi greeted women on the occasion of International Women's Day and said India takes pride in their many accomplishments. PM Modi said it was his our government's honour to work towards furthering women empowerment in the country across a wide range of sectors.

Last year too, PM Modi took an innovative approach to mark the day as he had handed over his social media accounts to women who inspire to share their stories, messages, life and work.
