CSK vs PBKS: Punjab Kings defeated Chennai Super Kings by 7 wickets in the 49th match of IPL-2024. This is Punjab's 5th consecutive win over Chennai. The team has won the second consecutive match in the current season. With this victory, Punjab's playoff hopes remain intact. The team has 8 points with 4 wins. Punjab won the toss and chose to bowl on Wednesday at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. Chennai scored 162 runs for 7 wickets in 20 overs. In reply, Punjab achieved the target of 3 wickets in 17.5 overs. Captain Sam Curran returned unbeaten on 26 and Shashank Singh returned unbeaten on 25 runs.

PBKS opener Jonny Bairstow played important innings of 46 runs and Riley Roos played 43 runs. Shardul Thakur, Richard Gleeson and Shivam Dubey got one wicket each.

CSK captain Ruturaj Gaikwad scored 62 runs on 48 balls. He scored his fourth half-century in the season. This is Gaikwad's third consecutive 50+ score. Apart from Gaikwad, Ajinkya Rahane contributed 29 runs and Sameer Rizvi contributed 21 runs. Harpreet Brar took 2 wickets. Kagiso Rabada and Rahul Chahar got one wicket each.

Punjab got the target of 163 runs

Chennai Super Kings gave the target of 163 runs to Punjab Kings on the basis of captain Ruturaj Gaikwad's half-century innings. Punjab Kings won the toss and decided to bowl first. For Chennai, Ruturaj scored 62 runs in 48 balls with the help of five fours and two sixes, on the basis of which Chennai scored 162 runs for seven wickets in 20 overs. Harpreet Brar and Rahul Chahar took two wickets each for Punjab.

Chennai, who came to bat first, got a strong start from the opening pair of Ruturaj and Ajinkya Rahane and both made a partnership of 64 runs for the first wicket. This partnership was broken by Harpreet Brar by dismissing Rahane who returned to the pavilion after scoring 29 runs. After this, Brar made Shivam Dubey his victim in the same over who returned to the pavilion without opening the account. Chennai's innings faltered by Chahar dismissing Jadeja. Chennai could not carry forward the good start and lost three wickets in just six runs.

Amidst the falling wickets, captain Ruturaj once again played a patient innings and scored a half-century. It was only on the strength of Rituraj's innings that the team was successful in crossing the 150-run mark. He was supported by Sameer Rizvi and Moeen Ali, but Chennai's batting order could not score much against the Punjab bowlers. In the end, Mahendra Singh Dhoni made some shots, but got all out while taking two runs on the last ball. This is the first time this season that Dhoni has been out. Dhoni contributed 14 runs on 11 balls.
