CM Bhajanlal Sharma: On the auspicious occasion of World Environment Day and Ganga Dussehra from Jaipur's Ramgarh Dam, Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma has taken an important step towards making the state water self-sufficient by launching 'Vande Ganga Jal Sanrakshan-Jan Abhiyan'. The objective of this mass movement is to increase social awareness towards water conservation and environment.

Conservation of Nature: Not Individual, But Collective Duty

In the Shramdaan program organized at Ramgarh Dam, the Chief Minister emphasized on the principle of 'Water is Life' and said, "Conservation of nature is our shared duty, which we have to fulfill with full devotion and determination." He said that this campaign is not just a government initiative but a movement of public participation, under which works of water conservation, cleaning of traditional water sources and environmental conservation will be done across the state.

Emotional connection with 'Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam'

On this occasion, Chief Minister Sharma not only reiterated his resolve towards the environment by planting a vermilion plant under the 'Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam' campaign, but also appealed to the citizens to adopt this campaign in their lives. He said that every tree protects life, and if it is in the name of a mother, then this emotional bond becomes even deeper.

Water crisis: Rajasthan's biggest challenge

A large part of Rajasthan falls in arid and semi-arid areas, where the distribution of rain is extremely irregular. In such a situation, excessive dependence on groundwater and its excessive exploitation has pushed the state towards a severe water crisis. According to reports, the state used up to 149% of its annual groundwater recharge in 2023, due to which the groundwater level is falling alarmingly.

Government's resolution: Towards water self-sufficiency

The Chief Minister said that the state government has taken several strategic decisions regarding water supply in the last one and a half years. He said, "We are moving ahead with the resolve to make Rajasthan self-sufficient in the field of water." He believes that sustainable development is not possible unless water sources are revived.
